You can help the paw by donating via our available donation channels or by supporting our fundraising events.

DONATE

As an organization, we rely solely on the generosity of our supporters to carry out our mission. We do not receive any financial support from the South African government, either at the local or central level. Therefore, every single donation we receive, regardless of its size, is crucial to our ability to have a positive impact in the communities we serve.

Whether it's a one-time donation or a recurring contribution, each gift helps us to provide essential services and support to those in need. We are deeply grateful to all of our donors for their kindness and generosity, and we remain committed to using their contributions to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve.

As a registered NPO/PBO, your donation is 100% tax deductible in South Africa. Contact info@leaps.co.za to request your 18A tax certificate.

ANOTHER CRITICAL & IMMEDIATE NEED: A CLOSED BAKKIE

At LEAPS, our mission has always been a journey. Quite literally.

Every week, our field worker drives approximately 258 kms between and around the West Coast townships of Lamberts Bay, Elands Bay and Vredenburg, and is often called to assist in other areas like Graafwater. She then needs to get pets in need to the vets in Clanwilliam or Vredenburg, adding another 120 to 260 kms per trip. We call this the "Drive of Hope." It is the bridge between a life of neglect and the warmth of a safe and loving environment; between a painful untreated injury and the life-saving care of a specialist vet. But today, our bridge is struggling; our dedicated bakkie is literally falling apart.

Our current transport situation is reaching its limit. Just recently, our brakes failed while transporting an animal. To keep our promises to the animals of the West Coast in 2026, we urgently need to purchase, or better still, have donated, a dedicated rescue bakkie/van equipped with a secure, ventilated canopy. To date, our current truck has done over 324,248 kms.

Why a bakkie/van with a Canopy?

When we were first notified at 9pm about Roxy in Lamberts Bay, we weren't sure she’d make it through the night. She had been hit by a car and left for dead. She was literally covered in blood with a gaping wound on her leg all the way up to her abdomen. She was shivering from shock, and crying out in pain.

In the townships of Lamberts and Elands Bay, there are no specialist veterinary hospitals. To save Roxy, we had to get her to our partner vet in Clanwilliam—immediately. Without a dedicated rescue vehicle, we would have had no way of saving her. Not only had she been driven over and had a severally damaged leg, but also tested positive for Erlichea, a life-threatening tick bite fever rampant on the West Coast.

But Roxy made it because our field worker, Rika, had the means to transport Roxy back and forth from the vet to her home, and do constant checks on her. Roxy, and many like her, is the reason we need this vehicle. With a canopy-fitted vehicle, we can transport dogs just like her - safely, hygienically, and in large enough numbers to make a dent in the suffering we see every day. Here is Roxy's progress.

It’s not just about getting from A to B. It’s about safety, dignity, and health:
  • Medical Emergencies: When an animal is suffering from severe mange (brandsikte), parvo, distemper, or tick-borne diseases like biliary, they need a safe, easy-to-sanitize space. A canopy allows us to transport sick animals without risking the health of other animals and people.
  • The Big Move: We are a foster-based rescue organisation. We don’t have a shelter. That means every animal we rescue must be driven to various destinations including as far as Cape Town, approximately 258kms one way. A truck allows us to transport multiple crates safely, ensuring puppies and kittens are shielded from the wind and sun.
  • Breaking the Cycle: We use our vehicle to run spay/neuter campaigns. A canopy-fitted truck means we can collect and return 10+ animals in a single trip, drastically increasing our impact on overpopulation.

The Goal: R250 000.00 or the donation of a vehicle would be life-changing!

We are looking to raise enough to secure a reliable, second-hand vehicle (like a Toyota Hilux) fitted with a canopy.
Will you please help us fuel the next many hundred kms?

Donations of R50 000 or more puts your name (or company logo) on the vehicle as a FTP (“Founding Transport Partner”), and promotions on all of our social media.

As a registered PBO (930031322). Your donation is 100% tax-deductible. Please email us to request your Section 18A certificate (info@leaps.co.za)

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to provide a better life for animals in need by ensuring they have a safe, healthy and loving home.
