WHAT WE DO

At LEAPS, we believe that every animal deserves a loving and safe home.

We aren't just rescuing animals from the streets; we are impacting the future of our communities through compassion and education.

We believe that kindness has no breed, no border, and no budget.

EDUCATE

In many townships around the world, pet owners struggle to afford proper care and medical attention for their furry companions. This leads to a heartbreaking cycle of neglect, disease and suffering. At LEAPS, we recognise that education is the key to breaking this cycle and improving the lives of township animals.

Our team is dedicated to educating pet owners on the basics of animal care, including proper nutrition, hygiene and preventative medical treatment. We also provide crucial medical assistance for pets in need such as vaccinations, spaying/neutering, and treatment for common illnesses.

We understand that many pet owners in townships may struggle to afford food for their pets, which is why we offer feeding programs to help ensure that no animal goes hungry. By working together with pet owners and the community as a whole, we can create a brighter future for township animals. Our goal is to empower pet owners to provide the love and care their pets deserve, and to help build a more compassionate and responsible community.

RESCUE & REHABILITATE

Our Rescuing and Rehabilitating service is dedicated to providing a safe haven for unwanted and homeless animals, giving them the chance to heal and recover in a loving and nurturing environment. We believe that every animal deserves a second chance, and we work tirelessly to ensure that they receive the care and attention they need to thrive.

Our team is committed to rescuing animals from difficult and often life-threatening situations, providing them with shelter, food, and medical care. We understand that many of these animals have experienced neglect or abuse, and we work hard to earn their trust and build a bond with them that will help them feel safe and secure.

REHOME

We are dedicated to finding loving forever homes for unwanted animals. As a foster-based organisation, we rely on the generosity of our fosters and volunteers to provide a safe and nurturing environment for these animals while we search for their perfect match. Before entering foster care or adoption, each animal receives any necessary vet care, including vaccinations and sterilisation, to ensure they are healthy and ready for their next chapter.

Our screening process ensures that each foster family is a good match for the animal in their care, providing peace of mind for all involved. Once a potential adoptive family has completed the adoption process, the animal moves on to their new forever home where they will be loved and cherished for the rest of their days.

MEDICAL ASSISTANCE & STERILISATION DRIVES

LEAPS is dedicated to providing essential medical assistance to those in need. We understand the importance of proper healthcare and strive to make it accessible to all. We provide primary healthcare to those in need, and in this way avoid the spread of zoonotic diseases.

Zoonotic diseases are illnesses that can be passed from animals to humans. In communities where animals are unsterilised, unvaccinated and lack access to basic veterinary care, the risk of these diseases spreading increases significantly. These include, but are not limited to:

Rabies - one of the deadliest zoonotic diseases - almost always fatal once symptoms appear. It spreads through bites or saliva, but is entirely preventable through vaccination.

Leptospirosis spreads through water contaminated by animal urine and can cause serious damage to the kidneys and liver in humans.

Often linked to cats, toxoplasmosis is usually mild but can be dangerous for pregnant women and those with weakened immune systems.

Outbreaks can affect healthcare systems, agriculture, food supply and local economies. Without intervention, these diseases don’t stay contained—they spread. Uncontrolled breeding leads to growing populations of vulnerable animals. Lack of vaccination increases disease transmission and close human–animal contact raises the risk to entire communities.

This is where LEAPS steps in. LEAPS recognises that human health, animal health and the environment are all connected - ONE HEALTH.

We provide vaccinations to prevent the spread of infectious diseases, as well as treatment for injuries and emergencies.

Our regular spay/neuter campaigns are conducted in a safe and efficient manner, ensuring that communities can benefit by avoiding the birth of thousands of unwanted animals that then contribute to the risk of zoonotic disease spread. To date, we have sterilised over 7500 animals.

Our team is committed to improving the quality of life for individuals and communities alike. Join us in our efforts to make healthcare accessible to all.
